Dozens of homes could be built on the edge of a rapidly expanding south Norfolk village.
Developers are looking to build 85 homes on land north of Beccles Road in Loddon, under plans that have been submitted to South Norfolk Council (SNC).
The scheme, submitted by M Scott Properties, will sit next to an existing 180 property development that was approved in July.
Both plans will dramatically increase the population of the village, which had 2,246 people living in the area in 2021.
If all the homes have two people living in them, they will add 530 people to Loddon - a 23.5pc increase.
The latest plans are an “outline application”, with further the finer details, such as appearance, landscaping and layout, coming in a future bid.
The site, which is currently used as farmland, is 9.3 acres in size but around 2 acres is set to become open space including a children’s play area.
A wetland will also be created to help prevent flooding.
The majority of new homes will be two-storey buildings, with 33pc – 28 houses - classed as ‘affordable’.
A planning statement submitted to SNC said: “A further application would follow in late 2024, with a start-on-site predicted for spring 2025.
“The first 35 dwellings could then be completed by the end of 2026 and thereafter a delivery of the final 50 dwellings the following year would not be unreasonable, meaning final completion by the end of 2027.
“Any harm to the countryside character of the existing arable field will be minimal and the overall landscape impact is more likely to be neutral or positive.
“The proposed development constitutes sustainable development and will deliver significant and substantial benefits.”
The application will be decided by SNC in due course.
