Warnings have been issued after fossil hunters were spotted at damaged cliff bases.

People were evacuated from Pakefield Holiday Park on Friday after a section of the road in front of the clifftop caravans fell on to the beach below.

Damage to the cliffs also revealed a suspected unexploded bomb on Saturday and a 100m exclusion zone was set up ahead of a controlled explosion being carried out.

The object was a Second World War minesweeping device.

The beach at the bottom of the steps at Arbor Lane has now mostly washed away and members of the public have been reminded to stay away from the damaged cliffs.

Fossil hunters have been spotted at the base of cliffs and other individuals are straying too close to the edge.

A Coastal Partnership East spokesman said: "For public safety and to allow the relevant teams to assess the damage, affected areas remain cordoned off - however, we have been made aware that some of the cordons have been removed.

"This is all incredibly dangerous as the area remains unsafe and there is the possibility of further cliff collapse.

"Please stay away from the area unless it is absolutely necessary to visit and in the unlikely event that you do need to be in this area, please respect the cordons and avoid standing near to the edge or the base of the cliffs."

The damage comes after the three remaining clifftop properties at Arbor Lane were demolished on November 18 due to their risk of being lost to the sea.

East Suffolk Council is continuing to assess the situation and determine the next steps for the local community.
