A village with plans for more than 100 houses will have to 'wait and see' after a building firm collapsed, a council leader has said.
Carl Smith, leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council (GYBC), was speaking after the Lowestoft-based developer Wellington Construction Ltd went into liquidation.
The collapse has cast uncertainty over a bid, made by the developer in January this year, to build 104 houses in Bradwell.
Mr Smith said: “It’s sad to see a local company gone like that. I’m sorry for the people who have lost their jobs.
“Although they were based in Lowestoft, they built a lot around here."
The plans for Bradwell included 29 new houses on land by Kings Drive and 75 houses with a through road from Ollands Road and Meadowland Drive.
“We’ll have to wait and see what happens with the plans [for 104 houses in Bradwell]," Mr Smith said.
The council had not yet made a decision on the bid which was facing opposition from residents.
Around 60 people went to a Bradwell Parish Council meeting in September to voice their opposition to the plans.

At a meeting of Wellington Construction Ltd on November 9, the company decided to wind up and appoint liquidators Hayley Watson and Andrew McTear, both of McTear Williams and Wood Limited.
The firm had two directors, Paul Pitcher and Elizabeth Ley.
Mr Pitcher is also listed as director of four other firms, all of them property management companies.
Ms Ley, meanwhile, is director of a company called Wellington Construction Group Ltd.
That company was incorporated in February last year and - like the similarly named Wellington Construction Ltd - is also based in Quay View Business Park on Barnards Way in Lowestoft.
She is also director of AGL Scaffolding Ltd and two property management companies.
