Fan queue to meet Alan Partridge at Norwich Waterstones

Steve Coogan has been in character as the tactless TV and radio presenter at a book signing at Waterstones in Castle Street. 

Fans have travelled from across the world to meet the star in Norwich and the queue stretched more than 600 feet away from the store at its peak. 

Wayne Howsen, who works in Dubai, has flown more than 3,000 miles for the event.

"I've been a fan for 15 years and I've never had the chance to meet him before."

Shaun and Alex Dean travelled more than three hours from the West Midlands to meet Partridge in his spiritual home of Norwich.

"We've been fans for around 25 years and we think he's got plenty of mileage left, he's bounced back a couple of times already."

Emma Mac, who took her children Oscar and Darcy along to the signing, agreed that the character was unlikely to be retiring anytime soon.

"My nine-year-old was watching his shows last night and she was proper belly laughing."

Mr Weber said: "We've been fans for 10 years and we like the comedy because it makes other people feel awkward."

Mr Hughes added: "It's definitely put Norwich on the map."
