A cyclist in his 50s has died and a man was arrested following a crash near Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital early this morning.

Police were called to Watton Road, at the junction of Colney Lane, at 5.10am following reports of a crash involving a black Mercedes CLA 200 and a cyclist.

Both vehicles were travelling in the direction of Hethersett when the car collided with the cyclist.

The cyclist, a man in his 50s, died at the scene.

Two ambulances, an ambulance officer vehicle and East Anglian Air Ambulance attended.

The driver of the Mercedes, a man in his 20s, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and for drink driving.

He has since been taken to Wymondham Police Station for questioning where he remains.

Multiple roads were closed whilst emergency services attended the scene.

Officers want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, the manner of driving of either vehicle before the collision or who may have relevant dashcam footage.
