Villages by the Sea on BBC Two to feature Holkham in Norfolk

Holkham will make its debut on Villages by the Sea on BBC Two at 7pm tomorrow when archaeologist Ben Robinson delves into its medieval past.

The presenter will appear with staff at Holkham Hall to investigate its lost village which "disappeared" 200 years ago.

Keith Harding, from the visitor experience team, said: "When Ben Robinson and the team asked to come and film, it was a dream come true and a story to cherish.

"We started to research the village's story three years ago, seeing it from a visitor's perspective.

"So many people drive up the path and through the gates, perhaps glancing at the almshouses and the other buildings, but not realising the fascinating story of the village and their residents over the years and how the village has moved to its present location.

"The fabulous buildings all have great stories to tell, as do the residents themselves."

Lucy Purvis, one of the estate's archivists, added, "It was great fun having Ben and the crew in the archive.

"I was able to show him some of the earliest maps of Holkham and he was very enthusiastic.

"I can’t wait to watch it."
