Shoppers are being asked to buy books to make Christmas special for children who might not get any other presents this festive season.
The Giving Tree Appeal, now in its 17th year, is an initiative by Norfolk County Council’s children’s services department and Waterstones.
A tree, in the Norwich Waterstones in Castle Street, is being decorated with hundreds of tags representing a child and the book they would like to receive for Christmas.
There are requests for books from hundreds of Norfolk children and young people living in foster care or children’s residential homes.
Last year’s appeal saw more than a thousand books bought and delivered to children in care across Norfolk.
Purchases, which can be made up until Sunday, December 3, can be made online or by visiting the Castle Street bookshop.
Penny Carpenter, cabinet member for children’s services at County Hall, said: “The Giving Tree is such a wonderful idea and gives children of all ages, who are less fortunate, the joy of reading.
"Norfolk County Council believes every child deserves to experience the hope and excitement of Christmas morning by opening a special gift."
