A 15-year-old died following an adverse reaction to anaesthesia after being admitted to hospital, a court has been told.
Adele Carty, of Ruskin Close in Heacham, near King's Lynn, was admitted to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital earlier this year.
She died there on Tuesday, May 23.
Assistant coroner Christopher Leach opened the inquest into her death at the Norfolk Coroner’s Court at County Hall, Norwich, on Wednesday.
He gave the medical cause of death as respiratory failure due to an adverse reaction to anaesthesia.
Following a post-mortem, the teenager also diagnosed with hypoplasia, emphysema and hemidiaphragm affecting the left lung, kypholordosis, and pulmonary hypertension with left pleural trauma associated with chest drain placement.
Mr Leach confirmed that Miss Carty’s mother, Anna Carty, had provided a statement to the court.
She said her daughter, Adele Rosalie-May Carty, was born on January 15, 2008, in King’s Lynn.
A full inquest, which is scheduled to last for two days, will take place at the coroner’s court next year.
