The A47 west of Norwich was shut overnight due to flooding - for the fourth time in the last three weeks.

National Highways East were forced to close the road sometime in the early hours of this morning in both directions between Mattishall Road in Honingham and Dereham Road in Easton.

The road was not reopened until after 4am with motorists having been rerouted around the incident site.

The region endured heavy rain and gale-force winds, with streets flooded, trees felled and schools closed.

The weather brought gridlock to Norfolk's two busiest roads, with both the A47 and A11 closed for long stretches.

Repeated A47 closures prompted locals in nearby villages to call for action after diversions caused rural roads to be destroyed by heavy traffic.
