A shoplifter has admitted stealing hundreds of pounds worth of goods in a spree across Norwich.

Emma Howard, 33, of Long Row, Norwich, took items including an £80 toothbrush from Boots, an £80 dog bed from Jolleys, a cafe tip jar, meat from Aldi, alcohol from the One Stop Shop in Prince of Wales Road, alcohol and clothes from Asda in Drayton High Road and two tanks of fuel.

She also struck a member of staff at Aldi in Drayton Road who challenged her.

In most cases she was identified on CCTV.

Howard had initially been arrested on September 16 and given a conditional discharge.

Ten days later she was caught shoplifting again, therefore breaching the order.

Howard has admitted a total of 12 thefts and an assault.

At Norwich Magistrates' Court she was handed a community order which means she must complete a 30 day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement in 12 months.

Howard was also ordered to pay over £200 in compensation to four of her victims.

Duncan Etchells, from Operation Converter which encourages shoplifters to confess, said: "Shoplifting is a scourge for retailers that impacts on businesses and customers and Norfolk Police is committed to tackling offenders and bringing them to justice.

"Howard faced some personal challenges and in handing her a community sentence hopefully she can get the help she needs to address her issues and put an end to her stealing."
