A man who claims he was acting in self-defence against an intruder is to stand trial for making threats with a gun.

Ian Bloomfield, 52, is accused of wielding a revolver while threatening a man during an incident in Diss in June 2022.

He appeared before Norwich Magistrates' Court charged with possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He is also accused of attacking the same man causing actual bodily harm during the same incident.

The firearms charge relates to a Umarex .50 calibre revolver that fires CO2 cartridges.

Bloomfield, of Queensway, Roydon, near Diss, appeared via video link from home due to medical issues.

He did not enter a plea to either charge.

Richard Mann, representing him, indicated he was likely to plead not guilty.

“He says that a man came into his property and attacked him and he was defending himself,” he added.

District Judge David Wilson said the case was so serious it must be held at Norwich Crown Court

A trial date is likely to be set at a hearing on November 22.
