Plans for five homes near an historic manor house have been turned down.
NB Construction applied to build three four-bed and two five-bed properties on land off Sluice Road at Denver, near Downham Market.
West Norfolk council officers have refused the application.
The CPRE Countryside Charity - formerly the Council for the Preservation of Rural England - objected.

It said the development would harm the setting of the nearby Grade II listed Manor House Farmhouse.
Denver Parish Council also objected, saying the proposals would "negatively affect the setting" of the 16th century property.
Twelve objections were received, on grounds including additional traffic on Sluice Road.
Villager Katy Bee wrote: "The site is the last piece of open, ancient land in the area and will alter the nature of this forever. Something as a village we are proud of and want to protect."
