A short film about human trafficking, survival and family love that was filmed in Reepham is going to be screened at a festival in Chicago. 

Called Losing Us, the film will represent Norfolk at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival, which is a qualifying event for the Oscars. 

The film was directed by Teele Dunkley, produced by Lesley van Dijk and features actors from Norfolk and Suffolk including Dylan Baldwin, Mark Nash, Arieta Visoka, Jack Fisher and Agnes Lillis.

Ms van Dijk, who is based in Reepham, said: "More than 100 people were involved in the making of this and many live locally so the screenings are also a way for others to see their fantastic performances and involvement. 

“It has been amazing how people from Reepham got behind the production. 

“Both Teele's and my family have been incredibly supportive for which we are forever grateful.

"It started with an idea from Teele and writer Stephan Drury, who will also attend a screening, and it turned into a powerful story that touches people's hearts and minds.”

The story follows a mum who flees her home country with her two children to make a new life in the UK. 

Filming locations included the Bircham Centre in Reepham, Johnson's of Reepham shop, Eves Hill Farm in Booton, Easton and Otley College, Cawston play park and Reepham's Market Place.

The film’s world premiere took place in September at the International Human Rights Festival in Albania.

Stephen Fry, who supported the film, said: "Congratulations to every single one of your actors, crew and everybody involved. 

“It deserves to get so much praise and so many prizes that you have to change the title to 'Winning It'.”
