More than two dozen homes will no longer be built in a Norfolk Broads village after council officials raised fears over road access to the proposed properties.

Land south of The Street, in Rockland St Mary, had been earmarked for the development of 25 homes, as part of the South Norfolk Village Clusters Housing Allocations Plan (VCHAP).

The document outlines rural locations where 1,200 homes could be built across the district between now and 2038.

However, the Rockland site - which is located behind existing housing - has now been removed from the plan.

A report to councillors said: “Unfortunately, as part of [the VCHAP] process, for one site, south of the Street at Rockland St Mary, it became apparent that the site promoters could not give sufficient assurance that the required access is deliverable.”

Another change to the VCHAP plans has seen a cut in the number of homes proposed for land north of Church Road in Tasburgh.

A previous allocation of 25 has been cut by five.

Officials said the reduction came following discussions with Historic England.

SNC councillors agreed to send the VCHAP out to a public consultation in December.
