A love of fried chicken caused a man to breach a curfew stopping him from being on Prince of Wales Road after dark, a court heard.

Adam Smithnson, 47, blamed his craving for finger lickin’ chicken when he was arrested on the Norwich nightlife street on October 15.

Norwich Magistrates’ Court was told at the time he was subject to a 8pm to 8am curfew imposed as part of bail conditions.

Sally Harris, prosecuting, said he had been arrested at 1am after police were alerted that he was on the street by door staff who had recognised him.

Michael Cole, mitigating, said: “He wanted some chicken. He was hungry and unwisely he went out when he shouldn't have.”

Smithnson, who lives at The Hub hostel run by St Martins Housing, is due to be sentenced on November 1 for assault, threats and possessing a pool ball in a sock as a weapon after an incident in Cathedral Close in June.

Magistrates extended his bail to include electronic monitoring to prevent him from breaking the curfew again.
