Stabbing at City of Norwich School leaves boy in hospital

Police were called to the City of Norwich School in Eaton Road at 2.15pm today after reports that a boy had been stabbed with a tail comb.

Officers attended along with three crews from the East of England Ambulance Service and the East Anglian Air Ambulance

The boy was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with a stab wound.

There was shock outside the school following the incident which happened an hour before the end of lessons.

A mother who was picking up her child from the school said: "It is really shocking and that's why I've come and picked him up, it's really bad."

One student, who did not want to be named, added: "We're not sure how it's even happened, it's the first stabbing we've had since we've been here."

A boy has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and taken to Wymondham Police Station for questioning where he remains.

Superintendent Wes Hornigold said: ‘We will be investigating the full circumstances surrounding this incident.

"The victim’s injuries are not believed to be serious and he is expected to be released from hospital later this evening following treatment."

An email was sent to parents from headteacher Jo Philpott who said the school would "provide the necessary support to those involved".

The email said: "An incident took place at school involving two students resulting in police and ambulance being called to the site.

"Please be reassured that this was a contained incident, that we are providing the necessary support to those involved, and that there is no further cause for concern for the school community.

"We will however speak with students about this in an appropriate way in the morning and will provide you with any updates as necessary."
