Norfolk could see the first frost of the autumn this weekend as temperatures are set to plummet.

The freezing conditions are predicted to arrive as early as Sunday night when the mercury drops to 0C for the first time since last winter.

Much of the county will see rain and wind today and tomorrow as a warm front lingers over the country, predicted to turn colder as the week draws on.

A BBC forecaster said: "The rain will start to clear tomorrow but then it will start to turn cloudy again and that marks the approach of autumn.

"Into Saturday, the colder air finally starts to penetrate and through the weekend there will be loads of sunshine. It will be cold and crisp, with temperatures significantly lower.

"Sunday may see daytime temperatures drop to just 10C but at night it could dip to as low as 0C, so chances are we will get a patchy ground frost on Monday morning."

As recently as last weekend, temperatures in Norfolk were as high as 25C, hotter than some areas of the Mediterranean.
