A shop in Holt could soon be rebuilt nearly five years after it was demolished.

The proposed development is located within Fish Hill and was formerly the home of Holt Carpets, which now has a branch across the street, before it was knocked down in 2018.

In an application submitted to the North Norfolk District Council, a two-and-a-half-storey building is proposed for the site, consisting of a ground-floor shop and a two-bedroom flat above.

Its design document states: "The ground floor offers a suitable size for the shop while the floors above provide the accommodation space needed and offers views over the attractive town centre."

The replacement building would be built in the Georgian style, with flat brick arches, raised quoins, stone sills and a pantile roof.

The 49 square metre shop would employ three full-time employees and the application states it is "ideally located within the town centre with a wide range of shops, restaurants, public facilities and public transport".

It is not currently known what shop would occupy the site.

Before work can commence, an archaeological inspection would need to be undertaken because "potential heritage assets" could be buried at the site, owing to its medieval marketplace origins.
