Lidl has issued a recall for one of its frozen products over fears it may contain small pieces of plastic.

The supermarket giant has warned customers that its Red Hen Battered 25 Chicken Dippers may be unsafe to eat due to the possible presence of "hard blue plastic".

The store has asked that customers do not eat any of the items and return them to a store where a full refund will be given.

What is a product recall?

If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be "withdrawn" or "recalled".

The Food Standards Agency issues notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.

In some cases, a "Food Alert for Action" is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific actions to be taken on behalf of consumers.
