Motorists are facing more disruption on the A47 after officials announced five weeks of closures to the east of Norwich.

Work will start next week, between Acle and Postwick, as National Highways contractors carry out "essential" safety improvements.

The scheme includes upgrading warning signs, road markings and road studs. Vegetation will also be cleared and the carriageway resurfaced.

The work will take place over five weeks between October 9 and November 10, 8pm and 6am on weeknights only.

Details of the disruptions are:

Week 1: A full closure of the A47 between the Acle roundabout and the Postwick interchange in both directions

Week 2: The closure of the A47 eastbound between the Postwick interchange and Acle roundabout

Week 3: The closure of the A47 westbound between Acle roundabout and the Postwick interchange

During these times, eastbound traffic will be diverted from the A47 at Trowse Newton to travel southbound on the A146.

Traffic will then join the A143 at Gillingham to rejoin the A47 at Beccles Road on the A47 interchange.

Westbound traffic will follow the same diversion but in reverse.

During weeks one, three, four and five, westbound traffic will still be able to access the A47 westbound between the A47 Acle entry sliproad and Lingwood Road.

While works on the Brundall roundabout take place, temporary two-way traffic lights will be stationed between the roundabout approaches at Cucumber Lane and Yarmouth Road.
