City Hall is advertising even more top jobs, with a combined salary of more than £330,000.

Norwich City Council (NCC) is looking to recruit four top jobs at the authority, just one month after it started looking for people to fill three others.

The latest recruitment drive is for a new head of building safety and compliance; director of property; director of housing services and community safety; and head of finance.

In total, the roles could pay a combined £335,776.

Last month the council advertised two executive roles and the director of finance.

Those positions, which are no longer listed on the council’s website but have not been listed as filled, paid a combined £311,107.

Many of the positions NCC has been forced to fill relate in some way to housing, an issue that the authority has started to get a grip on in recent years.

It follows a backlog in repairs at council properties after it was discovered that essential safety checks were not properly carried out, with contractors brought in to address the work.

The city council has also been battling to get council home re-let times down.

It is now taking the council an average of 69 days to turn around an empty property, down from a high of 101. The authority's target is 21 days.

The new hires also come at a time of concern and anger over the amount of money the authority has spent on agency staff in recent months.

Reports revealed NCC spent £2.4m on temporary employees between January and June, almost double the same period the year before.

It also comes at a time of increased scrutiny on UK council finances, with Birmingham City Council having declared itself effectively bankrupt in September

While City Hall was forced to find £6.2m in savings and cuts in its 2023-24 budget, its financial position is a far cry from that of Birmingham, which needed to find £760m to cover an equal pay claim after underpaying female workers.
