Hirst’s Farm Shop & Cafe in Great Yarmouth has been named winner of the Food and Drink Retailer of the Year award at the Norfolk Food & Drink Awards 2023.
In a short space of time, Hirst’s Farm Shop & Cafe has grown into a popular local attraction.
The shop is fully stocked with locally-sourced and homegrown produce, including it’s own fishmonger, Dabs ‘n’ Crabs. The cafe has a tasty menu that’s also packed with locally-sourced ingredients.
The judges said that from entering the shop, the atmosphere is relaxed, rustic and welcoming. Staff are warm and helpful and know their product ranges.
“The shop has a feel of a traditional greengrocers and farm shop,” they said. “We loved the popular fish counter and its selection of platters available to take away.
“The owner’s story and the passion the staff display shine through and make it a must visit for a true Norfolk farm and food experience.”
Rob Hirst, owner of Hirst’s, said: “To be placed at the awards with many well respected food and drink businesses really makes us feel like we are on the map now!
“It has really given our team the appreciation and acknowledgement they deserve with all the work they put in. It wouldn’t be without our amazing customers, who continue to visit us and enjoy the Hirst’s experience of our farm Shop, fishmongers and cafe.”
Finalist: Jarrolds Food Hall
At the heart of Norwich for 200 years, Jarrolds is passionate about delicious food and drink.
The independent department store offers a choice of three restaurants, two wine bars, a coffee bar and seafood bar.
The well-stocked Food Hall hosts the finest produce, featuring the exclusive Jarrolds Own Brand, award-winning gins, local cheeses, freshly-baked pastries and more tempting treats.
The judges said Jarrolds has become a staple of the Norwich food scene. “The investment they have made to their food hall has created an exceptional venue, a kind of Harrods of Norwich,” they said. “The range of local produce is well curated and takes pride of place.”
Finalist: Willow Tree Delicatessen
Willow Tree Delicatessen is a speciality food store found at Wroxham Barns. It offers a range of charcuterie, cheeses, antipasti, beers, wines, spirits and fine foods with the strongest emphasis on those produced locally.
Having relocated to Norfolk over 35 years ago, owner Martin Dupée has been a strong advocate for the region ever since and the store reflects this by celebrating the absolute best of Norfolk and East Anglia.
The judges said Martin has single handedly created one of the finest shops for local food and drink in the county. “His knowledge and passion for Norfolk is evident, and you will definitely find what you are looking for,” they said.
