A dog who came to the RSPCA with "painful" skin problems is "one of the most awful examples of neglect" staff had ever seen.
A four-year-old Tibetan mastiff, "with the most wonderful temperament" was found severely depressed and underweight, with open wounds and eczema.
Sara also had infected ears and eyes that will most likely need operating on.
RSPCA volunteer and behaviourist Michelle LeBourn came across Sara while working.
Ms LeBourn said: "Her eyes were lifeless and I just had to get her out of there.
"When I lay her in my car I promised her that I would get her help and that day was the last day her suffering was going to go unnoticed.

"She is a gentle giant, who has already shown such a lovely nature. She deserves better."
Ms LeBourn took her for immediate medical treatment at The Grove vets in Swaffham after her owners handed her over voluntarily.
Now in the care of RSPCA West Norfolk, who said: "This is one of the most awful examples of neglect we’ve seen for quite a while. Just think how painful that must be for poor Sara."
Describing the situation as "delicate", Ms LeBourn said: "It wasn't a straightforward neglect case."
Sara now has a long and expensive road to recovery which can be supported via the GoFundMe page set up by Ms LeBourn.
Ms LeBourn adds: "She may end up needing a general anaesthetic to actually get deep in to flush her ears and shave her in spots she can't bear to have touched."
