A jury has taken just over two hours to find a man guilty of inflicting grievous bodily harm after he attacked another man outside a Norwich pub.

George Baldwin, 27, had been out in the city when he became involved in a confrontation with John Fisher outside the Louis Marchesi pub in Tombland.

Norwich Crown Court heard Mr Fisher suffered a bleed on the brain and spent three days at Addenbrooke's Hospital after he was punched in the face in the attack in the early hours of August 8, 2021.

Baldwin, from Lincolnshire, showed no emotion after he was convicted by the jury.

Recorder Nicola Fitches adjourned sentencing until November 28 for a pre-sentence report to be carried out.

During the trial jurors were shown CCTV footage of the incident.

Giving evidence, Mr Fisher told Chris Youell, prosecuting, he had been heading towards Prince of Wales Road at the time.

The last thing he remembered was being "outside the Edith Cavell" pub, which is near the Louis Marchesi, before he recalled "being in the ambulance or in hospital".

Mr Fisher spent three days at Addenbrooke's having suffered a traumatic subarachnoid haemorrhage, a bleed on the brain and a ruptured ear drum.

Baldwin had told Michael Clare, defending, Mr Fisher was "much bigger than me" and was "angry" and panicked about "what he might do".

He said in that "split second" he swung a punch to "stun" Mr Fisher in order that he "wouldn't be hurt himself".
