A village sports club is hoping to score a new floodlit football pitch.
Wisbech St Mary Sports and Community Centre has applied to build an artificial grass pitch with four 20m-high floodlights at its playing fields off Beechings Close.
The plan includes and acoustic barrier and fencing.
In a planning statement, the centre says artificial turf pitches (ATPs) are "a high-quality and indispensable part of modern football facilities".

It adds: "The high quality, consistent playing surface is the ideal environment to play the game and for young people to learn and with regular maintenance programmes, ATPs can be heavily used all year round with no decline in quality."
The statement says the new surface helps reduce the number of cancelled fixtures during the winter months, helping football to be "a key part of a regular physical activity habit".
It adds: "The proposed development will complement existing amenities at the football ground, and together, will be able to adequately cater for community demands for improved sports facilities."
