The mother of a 15-year-old girl who was hit by a car as she stepped off a school bus has pleaded for the driver who fled the scene to come forward.

Grace Wood and three of her friends, who are students at Old Buckenham High School, were getting off the bus in Haugh Road in Banham when the incident happened.

The bus had to pull up on the side of the road rather than the lay-by which meant Grace and her friends crossed the road in front of the bus.

According to Grace's mother, Sam Wood, a car overtook the bus in order to pass and hit Grace, leaving her unconscious in the road until she was helped to safety by friends.

"The driver stopped very briefly and then drove off," Ms Wood said. "No details were exchanged or even checked if she was okay."

Grace was taken to hospital following the incident at 3.30pm on September 8 and it was discovered she had a broken hand, cuts and bruises, a concussion and two black eyes.

"Of course, she is very upset," Ms Wood added. "Her poor friend who saw the whole thing is absolutely traumatised.

"I am devastated this has happened to my daughter and I am angry for such careless driving and then to not even help and drive away not knowing whether she was okay.

"We are all still in shock but thank our lucky stars that she is still with us."
