A Norfolk pub landlady has completed one of the country's most gruelling physical challenges, after swimming across the English Channel in just over 12 hours.

Dani Cameron, from the Shoulder of Mutton, in Strumpshaw, had to navigate through a swarm of jellyfish as she neared the French coast.

On reaching land, she said she was "thrilled and speechless".

"I feel like I sprinted the whole way," she added.

"I was stung by a jellyfish in the central reservation [an area near the middle of the Channel] and about a billion more were waiting on the French coast.

"I never thought I would make it, let alone in under 15 hours."

According to a post from the Sea Leopard Charter, her support boat, "Dani wants to show her daughter there is more to achieve then being a TikTok and Love Island celebrity.

The boat's tracker showed that Ms Cameron completed the challenge in around 12 hours and 20 minutes.

She started her swim from a beach at Aycliffe, on the outskirts of Dover, at around 4.30am on Saturday, and arrived at Tardinghen, just west of Calais.

As part of the challenge, Ms Cameron could not touch the boat at all during the crossing.

The temperature of the water remained between 19C and 20C, which would have felt cold against the average of 25C along the Channel yesterday.

Congratulations poured in for Ms Cameron, with friends and family hailing her as a "woman of steel," and a "true inspiration".

On her support boat was her husband and family, who cheered her on throughout.

Ms Cameron took on the challenge to raise money for the MND Association.

She had a target of £3,000, but her total has already soared past that.
