A skatepark has been forced to close after surface damage was found, raising safety fears.

Fakenham Town Council said the skatepark at Millennium Park would be closed "for the foreseeable future", but would reopen as soon as possible.

Angela Glynn, mayor of Fakenham, said it was better to be safe than sorry when it came to skateparks.

Mrs Glynn said: “The recent report by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents identified a fault in the surface covering and it is dangerous for people to use.

"Work is underway to get repairs carried out and these will be done as soon as possible."

Lesley Meanley, town clerk, said: "Our main concern is for the safety of the skateboarders and other users of this site.

"We absolutely don't want to see anyone harmed on our equipment, so our priority is to get it repaired as soon as we can.”

The skatepark - which cost £25,000 - opened in 2014 after years of funding bids.
