Plans to open a new branch of Argos in Norwich city centre have been given the green light.

The new store will open in the Queen's Road branch of Sainsbury's as Argos moves away from standalone stores, with its Riverside shop closing last year.

Argos plans to close more than 30 stores this year with hopes to close 70 more by the end of 2024, opening more concessions in Sainsbury's supermarkets.

It will open from 8am to 10pm from Monday to Friday, on Saturday the shop will close at 9pm, while on Sunday it will open at 10am and shut at 4pm.

Work will now begin to install the Argos counters and other related equipment after Norwich City Council's planning team approved the application last week.

The retailer will also install related illuminated signs on the existing Sainsbury's store along with a totem sign in the car park.

Standalone stores remain in parts of Norfolk, including in Dereham, Fakenham and Cromer.

Currently, Norwich's nearest Argos branches are at the Sainsbury's in Thorpe St Andrew and Costessey, having previously also had stores in Castle Quarter and in St Stephens Street.
