The countdown is on as two north Norfolk beaches battle it out to be crowned the best in the region.

The Battle of the Beaches, an online competition run by North Norfolk District Council, has named Sheringham and West Runton as its finalists. 

'The Battle of Beeston Bump' will determine this year's winner when voting opens on Monday September 4. 

West Runton is an award-winning Blue Flag beach with sand and shingle shores.

The beach also reached the final round of the competition in 2022, but was pipped to the post by Mundesley.

Visitors were stunned when rare bottlenose dolphins were spotted swimming off the coast at West Runton in August.

Neighbouring Sheringham also has Blue Flag status and was recently named one of the best places to live by the sea

The popular holiday destination is a stony beach with sand and rock pools at low tide.
