He may have always dreamed of the bright lights of the West End, but returning to his Fenland roots is always special for Rocky Horror Show star and former Wisbech Grammar School pupil Richard Meek.

The actor, who was born in King's Lynn and grew up in Emneth, plays Brad in the stage show which is coming to Norwich Theatre Royal from September 11 to 16 as part of a 50th-anniversary world tour.

Mr Meek, 41, said he was thrilled to have the chance to tread the boards in a place so close to his heart.

“Because my roots are here, the friends I made at college, so filling out the Theatre Royal with loved ones is so exciting,” he said.

“It also makes me thankful for my parents, Alan and Jane, and sister Helen, who helped me get here.

“I want to share my story as someone from a rural background in the county, and prove if you have a dream, you can go out and achieve it - you can do it if you dream big, just like me.”

He started school in his village and moved on to Wisbech Grammar School before joining the College of West Anglia in Kings Lynn at 16.

He spent his spare time developing his love for acting, alongside working his first job at Strikes Bowl in King’s Lynn.

He has played several professional roles since what he describes as his "breakthrough" at age 22 in productions including Hairspray, Grease and Starlight Express.
