A bid to build a new supermarket in Great Yarmouth will be discussed by councillors next week.

Great Yarmouth Borough Council's development management committee will meet on Wednesday (September 6) to look into the bid by Lidl to replace its existing store on Pastuer Road with a larger new store close to Thamesfield Way.

Planners are recommending the committee approves the application subject to conditions including a time limit on deliveries outside the hours of 7.30am to 10.30pm Mondays to Saturdays and 9am to 6pm on Sundays and public holidays.

This is to protect neighbouring properties.

The application was originally approved by the committee in February - but it was later discovered the applicant’s Noise Impact Assessment report had not been accessible to view through the council website when originally subject to public consultation and the committee’s consideration.

Officers said the application was consequently incomplete when available for public inspection and the committee’s determination, and re-advertised the application and set up a further 21 days formal public consultation between August 9 and Friday, September 1.

The existing branch in Southtown will close before the new larger store opens.

The new store will be a single-storey retail food shop of 11,787 square metres with a 136-space car park.
