Two fly-tippers have been ordered to pay £500 between them for dumping waste.

West Norfolk Council officers investigated incidents on the Fairstead in King's Lynn.

A bedroom's worth of waste including a bed, chest of drawers and TV set were dumped on Brockley Green.

The items could have been taken to a tip for free, but when the council caught up with the culprit, they landed a £300 fixed penalty notice instead.

The cost would have been £200 had the matter been settled within 14 days.

Garden items dumped on Westfield, blocking an alleyway, which included a trampoline cost another tipper £200 after they paid up promptly.

West Norfolk Council leader Terry Parish said: "There is no excuse for fly-tipping.

"All of the items dumped at both sites in Fairstead could have been disposed of at the tip for free so there was no reason, other than not caring for the consequences of their actions, that these items should have been disposed of in this way.

"I thank the borough council Fairstead public open space team for removing the waste and the officers who investigated it to identify who was responsible.

"The two fines that have been paid today prove that we will investigate, we will find out who you are and we will prosecute you."

Margaret Wilkinson, one of the ward councillors for Fairstead, said: "Fly-tipping is inconsiderate and illegal.

"I’m pleased our council staff cleared it quickly and have investigated it to discourage others from considering doing the same thing, especially when it was blighting the environment in my ward.”
