A dog that was left abandoned with his owner for four days after they died is now hoping to get a new chance at life after being taken in by a rescue charity.

Sam, an eight-year-old Labrador, was brought over to the UK after he was found living on the streets of Romania in 2016.

He was then taken in by a family but had never been trained to walk on a lead so had to spend the first years of his life shut away at home.

Unfortunately, his adopter then suffered an injury at home and passed away, leaving Sam home alone in the house with them for four days until his owner's body was found.

Safe Rescue for Dogs, a Norfolk-based charity, has now rescued him and he is being fostered in a home in Norwich.

He is described as "a sweet and affectionate boy" who mixes well with other dogs and is happy to live with children.

Sam is learning how to walk on a lead each day and is now "loving his walks in local woods experiencing all the sights and smells he has missed out on all these years".

If you would like to adopt Sam or one of the other dogs in the care of Safe Rescue for Dogs you can do so by contacting the charity at 07788 251197 or emailing saferescue@hotmail.co.uk.
