A care home near Norwich is asking people across the city and further afield to send in cards to mark the 100th birthday of a special resident.

Carers at Hethersett Hall Care Home are urging members of its community to send birthday cards to surprise its beloved resident, Harold Page.

Mr Page will attain centenarian status on Saturday, September 2.

The team at the care home are hoping to present him with as many birthday cards as possible.

Mr Page will be celebrating his birthday on Friday, September 1 in the company of Little Visitors from Friend in Deed.

The Norfolk-based charity organises intergenerational care home visits. 

Its managing director, Kelly Lindsay, said: "Please take 20 minutes out of your day and the cost of a stamp so that this lovely man has a very special birthday. 

"Older people living in care homes really enjoy receiving letters and cards and every week, Harold looks forwards to the Little Visitors arriving on a Friday morning.

"Staff have told us he would be overjoyed to receive lots of lovely cards from children and adults too.

"Let’s get creative and make sure this lovely gentleman is smiling all day.”

Mr Page was born in Ipswich in 1923, and lived there for most of his life.

In 1949, he married Barbara, and together they had two children; Judith and Peter.

He has five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Staff at the care home, run by Barchester Healthcare, said they are hoping to help Harold have "a monumental 100th birthday".
