A north Norfolk wine bar and bistro has been taken over by new owners just two months after opening its doors.

The Blind Pig opened in Aylsham's Red Lion Street in June, proving a popular addition to the market town's growing food scene

It was the brainchild of Sean and Dana Portass - a couple with more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry.

The pair spent six months renovating the venue ahead of opening, but after two months they have now decided to lease the business to new owners Matt and Fay McKay.

Posting on Facebook, the Portasses said: "As most of you will know, this is what we do for a living

"We buy a property, renovate it, create places that we believe will work, open and run them until they are successful, then lease them out and move on to the next one.

"This little jewel has exceeded all our expectations all thanks to our wonderful customers, and therefore we feel it’s time for us to move onto something new."

Matt and Fay McKay, who both grew up in Cromer, took over the Blind Pig on Wednesday (August 16).

Mrs McKay, who has experience in the hospitality sector working in cafes and hotel management, said: "I've been working here since the beginning and I've just loved it, so I didn't really want anybody else to have it.

"We serve good food and the place has a really nice cosy feel about it."

Mr McKay, who was a musician in the military for 24 years, added: "We use local fresh produce from around Norfolk, which people appreciate.

"I hadn't been to Aylsham for years, but it wasn't until Fay started working here that I realised what a beautiful town it is."
