September is almost upon us, but there will still be plenty of colour to enjoy as part of the National Garden Scheme (NGS).

There are two private and secret Norfolk gardens opening as part of the scheme in September 2023, which raises money for nursing and health charities through admissions, tea and cake.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 3 

33 WALDEMAR AVENUE, HELLESDON, NR6 6TB 

10am-5pm, £5 admission, children go free, homemade teas  

A surprising and large suburban garden with different areas, which includes a mix of exotic and tropical plants combined with unusual perennials.

There is a quirky palm-thatched Tiki Hut, a treehouse draped in plants and a wildlife pond with rare plants.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 10

HIGH HOUSE GARDENS, BLACKMOOR ROW, SHIPDHAM, IP25 7PU 

12noon-5pm, £5 admission, children go free, homemade teas

A well-developed garden across three acres with colour-themed herbaceous borders and an extensive range of perennials and shrubs.

It has been involved with the NGS for 20 years. 

There are also box-edged rose and shrub borders and a large vegetable garden.
