A man was found with explicit images of young children after a raid by police, a court has heard.

Police executed a search warrant at the Great Yarnouth address of 62-year-old Simon Thomas.

Norwich Crown Court heard it came after "information received" by the Norfolk force.

Martin Ivory, prosecuting, said a computer tower was seized by police after they executed a warrant at his address on January 7 2021.

On the tower was found indecent images of children thought to be "aged between 12 and 17".

Mr Ivory said police also found a number of prohibited images as well as a prohibited video.

Thomas, of Nelson Road South, Yarmouth, appeared for sentence on Monday (August 14) having admitted possession of indecent images of children, namely 10 category C and six category B.

He also admitted possessing prohibited images of children, including 28 stills and one video.

Jude Durr, mitigating for Thomas, said his client was of "previous, unblemished good character" and had admitted the offending at "the earliest opportunity".

He said he defendant "hadn't slept for three days" prior to the sentencing hearing.

Mr Durr said the court could have "some confidence it's unlikely you will ever see him again".

Imposing a two year community order Judge Anthony Bate said Thomas had been of previous good character and should be given full credit for his pleas.

The court was told Thomas had been assessed by the probation service as someone who could be worked with so his risks could be addressed in a way that did not "deprive you of your liberty".

As part of the community order Judge Bate imposed up to 25 days Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR) and 200 hours unpaid work.

Thomas was also made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and must sign on the sex offenders register, also for five years.
