13-year-old Alfie Brown named as Swafield hit-and-run victim

Alfie Brown was killed after being hit by a white Ford Ranger truck in Swafield, near North Walsham, at 6.24pm on Thursday (August 10).

The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 50s, drove off but was found by police officers a short while later and has been questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene.

In the hours following the incident, a page at Gofundme.com was set up by Alfie's aunt, Emma Brown, who described him as an "adventurous, intelligent, beautiful boy with his whole life ahead of him".

The crowdfunding campaign has already raised in excess of £6,000 from more than 300 donators.

"Alfie loved riding his bike, playing the guitar and learning new things," Ms Brown said as she paid tribute to her nephew.

"Life will never be the same without him and he will always be in our hearts."

Alfie's father, Andrew, from North Walsham, also shared the news and fundraising page on Facebook on Friday evening.

He wrote: "It's with great sadness that I'm letting my friends know that my beautiful son Alfie was killed yesterday.

"Rest in peace Alfie, Dad loves you."

The post has received hundreds of messages in support of the family, with the village still reeling from the news. 

The Ford Ranger driver was taken in to custody for questioning following the arrest, where he currently remains. 

Norfolk Police are yet to confirm if the man has been charged but are expected to issue an update in the coming days.
