Wilko has commented on the future of its stores after it revealed it was on the brink of collapse. 

The homeware chain announced on Thursday that it had filed a "notice of intention" to appoint administrators amid "mounting cash pressures".

There were concerns for the 12,000 people employed by Wilko and for the future of stores, with six in Norfolk.

But a spokesman has now confirmed there are no closure plans.

He said: “There are no immediate store closures planned as a result of the announcement and the business continues to trade as usual during this period.”

Wilko has stores throughout Norfolk including in Norwich, Thetford, King's Lynn, Dereham and Great Yarmouth.

CEO Mark Jackson added: "We continue to believe that our robust turnaround plan, with significant re-stabilisation cost savings in progress, will deliver a profitable Wilko and maximise the significant opportunities that we know exist."

This does not affect Wilco Motor Spares stores which are not associated with Wilko in any way.
