A 25-year-old has big plans for her family business after taking over the artisanal chocolate firm.

Saffire was started in 2005 by Angela Ruthven after she retired as a school headteacher.

She had a unit in the Royal Arcade but decided to close it earlier this year to pass on the reigns to her granddaughter, Kathrin Funnell.

"I've worked with my grandma for 11 years and always loved it," Miss Funnell said. "All through school, I knew I wanted to take over one day."

Saffire is bringing back classic flavours such as lemon meringue and salted caramel as it relaunches online. 

It is also planning on bringing out new flavours seasonally.

Miss Funnell, who is from Dereham, is running the chocolate business alongside her job but is hoping to go full-time soon.

"We wanted to launch earlier but were building a new kitchen," she said. "It's lovely being able to get out there and meet people again.

"That's why I love pop-ups so much, of which we have a few coming up."

Saffire is doing pop-ups over the next four months at the Feed Cafe, the Forum and Fitzmaurice Park in Norwich and Blackthorpe Barns in Bury St Edmunds.

Miss Funnell added: "Eventually I'd love to have a shop again and bring back the workshops which people loved.

"And we'd love to be stocked in farm shops and start overseas deliveries."
