A dog that was found abandoned after her eight puppies died is now hoping to change her fortunes.

Stefania, a four-year-old rescue dog, was found living in a pack on the streets of a Romanian village.

She had given birth to nine puppies, eight of which had died from disease or had been run over by careless drivers.

Eastern Daily Press:

The desperate dog was then captured after being found sleeping with her surviving puppy and was taken in by a villager.

Safe Rescue for Dogs, a charity based in Norwich, has now rescued her and she is being fostered in a home in King's Lynn.

She is described as a "little shy" but "once she gets to know you she loves a fuss and will relax in your company".

A spokeswoman for the charity said: "Stefania loves a cosy bed to snooze in and she loves being around people.

"She is calm, quiet, respectful and day by day she gets more confident and has started enjoying playing with other dogs."

Safe Rescue for Dogs operates from Norfolk but works with adoptee families and fosterers nationwide.
