A stark warning has been issued about the "risk of losing limbs” on the Norfolk Broads this summer.

The Broads Authority has put out a reminder to be aware of the dangers that boat propellers pose.

It comes after an image in which two people are sitting with their feet in the water off the back of a motorboat was sent to Broads Control.

In a post on social media, the Broads Authority said: “Seen on the Broads, this may look like a family having a fun afternoon together, playing on the back of a boat, joking around and splashing in the water.

"However just beneath the water in this image is a sharp metal propeller used to power the boat which rotates extremely quickly, spinning thousands of times per minute.

"Thankfully this time no incident occurred, however, it doesn't bare thinking about what would happen if the two came into contact with the propellor.

"You risk losing limbs, other injuries or even death."

People have been urged not to dangle feet or arms over the edge, intentionally enter the water or get back on the boat while the engine is on and the propeller spinning.

The Broads Authority also reminded water users to wear life jackets.
