For years, they had been captivated by the sand dunes and starry nights on the north Norfolk coast.
But it is Justin and Angela Bygrave’s love story which reads like something straight out of a romance novel.
They first met through a mutual friend during a visit to Waxham Sands Holiday Park, located between Hemsby and Sea Palling.
Despite holidaying there separately many times before, they first connected in 2019.
“After returning home I received a friend request on Facebook from Justin,” Angela, 36, explained.
“I’m originally from New Zealand so we got chatting about that.
“When I asked our friend about him, she told me he was a good egg and really lovely.
“Things just went from there.”
At the time, Angela lived in Bedfordshire with her son, Carter, now seven, while Justin, 38, was in Norwich with his children, Zach, 12, and Eliza, nine.
In 2021, they decided to live together, and Angela relocated to Long Stratton, near Norwich, in June of that year.
She had no idea the best was yet to come.
"In May 2022, we were at Waxham Sands on holiday again,” she said.
“We had just eaten dinner, and Justin told me to relax and put my feet up.”
Unbeknown to Angela, Justin and the children, with help from their friends, set up a romantic proposal.
When Angela joined them, the question “marry me?” had been written out in stones on the beach and Justin got down on one knee.
A year later, and the couple have just celebrated their marriage, which took place at Hunters Hall in Swanton Morley, near Dereham, on Sunday, May 28.
“There’s just something really special about Waxham Sands,” Angela added. “There’s just something about it.
“I’m so pleased we got to spend some of our most precious moments there together.”
The couple are already booked in to return this summer for the first time as Mr and Mrs Bygrave.
A spokesperson from Waxham Sands said: “We are overjoyed to be a part of Angela and Justin’s story. We wish them all the best for the future.”
