A family is hoping to revive the village shop by opening one in their home near Fakenham.

A home on The Street in Helhoughton will be the location of a new cafe and village shop, should plans submitted to North Norfolk Council be accepted.

Owners have said in the application that the cafe and shop would create a place for the community to gather, give locals somewhere to shop without the need to drive and revive the tradition of a village shop.

The cafe will have up to six tables for customers and a small children's play area

Food on offer would include sandwiches, light snacks, pastries and cakes as well as coffee, tea and other drinks.

The shop area would sell food essentials and items such as newspapers and stationery.

The whole space is currently residential however it was used by the previous owners as a physiotherapy studio and waiting room until August 2022.

The current owners also believe it was historically a Roys store for many years.

There would not be any change to the structure of the building.

The owners hope the shop will open between 8am and 4pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm Sunday.
