Norwich's thriving food scene suffered a blow this week after two city restaurants announced closures.

One of those was Doner Bei Tante Anne, a vegan kebab shop in Wensum Street, which is set to shut in August.

But all is not lost as owner Anne Schröer has promised she will be back with hopes to continue serving her German street food classics on a pop-up basis.

The chef made the decision to shut down in the hope of finding a better work-life balance after hardly ever having a day off in the two years the restaurant was open.

She said: "It is going to be really hard to say goodbye to the place as it has been two years of great fun and I have made so many brilliant friends.

"But while it is a difficult decision it is also really hard when you end up missing all your family and friends' birthdays due to having to work all the time.

"Although it is not the end, as I plan to continue what I'm doing on a pop-up basis in the future.

"it is a good feeling that I don't have to close because no one likes my food.

"I'll be back."

The intention is to shut the restaurant at some point in mid to late August before then starting to find new opportunities to continue making people happy with her food.

Anne added: "I really want to thank everyone in Norwich.

"People are really curious to try out independent businesses and try new things which is so important for small businesses. It is fantastic."

This weekend Doner Bei Tante Anne celebrates its second birthday and Ms Schröer has prizes to be won and the restaurant will be covered in decorations.

It will close temporarily for a week before reopening for its final month.
