A man came out of his kitchen with a knife and threatened to stab a motorist who had been involved in a crash with an older woman, a court has heard.

Ronan Paden, 34, had been preparing a chicken dish at his home in King's Lynn when he became involved in an argument following a crash nearby in Tennyson Avenue.

Norwich Crown Court heard following the crash, which involved an older lady and a younger man, there was a disagreement between the parties who were shouting at each other" prompting Paden to go outside to "join in".

Chris Youell, prosecuting, said Paden went out and was "dancing around with a knife" and punched the motorist who went up and kicked the defendant's door.

Mr Youell said Paden said "he was going to stab him" although accepted he did not actually stab the motorist.

But the prosecutor said Paden did take the knife "out onto the street" with him during the incident on November 25 last year.

Paden, of Tennyson Avenue, Lynn, appeared for sentence on Monday (July 3) after admitting threatening words and behaviour and possession of a bladed article.

Adam Norris, representing Paden, said he had gone out following a crash involving an older lady and an aggressive younger man and acted with "hot-headedness".

Mr Norris said he had tried to help the older lady but had done so in a way that "broke the law".

Recorder Douglas Edwards said: "Going out onto the street wielding a knife, even if you don't intend to use it, is a very serious matter."

He imposed a nine-month sentence, suspended for 18 months, ordered to undertake 10 days Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR) and up to 35 days Thinking Skills Programme.

Paden was also made the subject of a three-month electronically-monitored curfew between 8pm and 7am.
