A barn that was once used to house shepherds could be converted into a new home. 

Larissa Clifton has applied for planning permission to revamp the property, which stands in a field at Walpole Highway, between King's Lynn and Wisbech.

A planning statement says: "This building was built as a small dwelling, to house shepherds until the 1970’s, while their flocks were on the neighbouring land.

"The building has now been used for agricultural storage, however this has now become surplus to requirements, and is not suitable for modern agricultural – having been originally built as a modest house."

The statement says a one bedroom, single storey home is proposed for the site, off Mill Bank.

It adds the development would represent the "optimal viable use of a heritage asset" by re-using a redundant building and enhancing its setting.

Local builders and tradespeople would be employed if the plans get the go-ahead.

A decision is expected from West Norfolk council later this year.
