A boat had to be rescued from mud flats off the Norfolk coast after it became stranded when it ran aground.

The Great Yarmouth and Gorleston lifeboat were called into action just before 5.30pm on Friday (June 23).

The crew quickly went to the scene where the pleasure cruiser had run aground near the Berney Arms Quay.

Two people were onboard and the lifeboat team carried out welfare checks and made sure there were no mechanical faults causing issues for the boat. 

The cruiser was pulled off the mud flat with a towline and brought back into safe water.

The lifeboat continued the tow to Berney Arms Quay where the Coastguard were waiting in order to check the cruiser had not sustained any damage.

After a few checks of the cruiser and the persons onboard, the Coastguard were satisfied for the cruiser to continue and the vessel then went on its way.
