A Gorleston teacher who aims to raise the aspirations of her college students has been named one of Britain's best teachers.

East Norfolk Sixth Form (ENSF) sociology teacher India Loveland was named Further Education Lecturer at this year's Pearson National Teaching Awards.

Ms Loveland was presented her award on Wednesday - which was also National Thank a Teacher Day - by ENSF principal Dr Catherine Richards and Pearson's Wendy Wooster.

Ms Loveland said it has been a personal dream to inspire ENSF students the same way she was inspired during her time there.

This award means so much," she said.

"I’m so lucky to have taught many students who are eager to learn about the world and develop their understanding of society.

"It’s really important for students to be able to have high aspirations for their futures. Being able to support them and guide them with this is an honour.”

Ms Loveland has now been shortlisted to win one of 16 Gold Awards, which will be announced at a BBC-broadcasted gala ceremony in London in November.

Winners will be showcased on The One Show.
